As this is my 10th year of taking part in Cambridge Open Studios I am making some special pieces of jewellery. I love the individuality of opals and these stunning solid Austrailan Boulder Opals are set in 18ct gold which sets off the beautiful deep blue and turquoise colours. These are responsibly mined opals - if you are interested in having a ring made I can source opals in a size, shape and colour of your preference.
This month has been busy making commissions for special occasions. In a happy coincidence these two custom made orders are off to Canada. The silver wedding bands are for a couple who are going off to get married there. The silver pendant has a ruby cabochon set in 9ct gold and is to celebrate a ruby wedding anniversary whilst the couple are on holiday over there.
This recent commission was fun to make - a variation on one of my forged silver circle necklaces. I enjoy making these silver chain necklaces as they can be custom made in style and length as all the links are handmade.
I love working with opals - every one is different in hue and I was happy to make these silver and opal earrings to match an existing pendant bought many years ago.
It was a pleasure to make another mobius ring - this time in 9ct gold; a nice alternative wedding ring for a man. This was a long distance commission and I had some lovely feedback from the clients.
'Once more a big thank you , and we're glad we found you & it feels extra special being commissioned and made especially for us .
Thank you for your time , your communications , your ease to work with us to get exactly what we hoped for when we set out on this quest.'
An elegant alternative to tradtional wedding bands, This pair of satin white gold rings were a pleasure to make for a lovely couple. These commitment rings have one plain and one mobius twist ring.
A couple of recent commissions which were special gifts. The man's chunky textured silver silver ring has a ruby set in 9ct gold. The 18ct gold forged earrings have a secret engraving on the back. It is always a pleasure to make these personal pieces of jewellery.
I have had my own maker's mark, with my initials, registered with the London Assay Office for 1O years. There is a miniumum weight over which precious metals should be hallmarked and I am happy to have my hallmarking done at the London Assay Office - the distinctive Leopard's head is their symbol. All my jewellery is hallmarked as required so do look out for my initials in the hallmark!
Started the year off making a ring for an 18th birthday with this lovely apple green chrysoprase gemstone. It's a vivid but calming colour and looked good with the hammered silver shank. The celtic twist silver ring was a 25th anniversary gift for a man; the wife and son already have matching rings so it's lovely to ahve made one for each of the family!
I like to post work in progress and finished work on instagram as well as on this blog - here is the 'best nine' from my instagram feed last year. You can follow me here www.instagram.com/birgittebruunjewellery/
